Anyone who has pruned a real number of branches in one afternoon knows the sequence. The first hour is fine. By the second, the web of your thumb is complaining. By the third you are squeezing with your whole arm, resting between cuts, and quietly re-defining which branches actually needed doing.

Ignore the number printed on the battery. The packs carry a voltage figure stamped on by the manufacturer that does not describe anything useful about how the tool performs. Judge it by what it actually cuts — 30 mm, cleanly, repeatedly — and not by a sticker. We are not going to repeat a number we cannot stand behind.
30 mm is the honest ceiling, not a target. It will take a 30 mm branch in green wood. Dry, dense, seasoned hardwood at that diameter is asking a lot of any handheld pruner, and forcing it is how blades get chipped. Step down a size or reach for a saw — the tool will last far longer for it.
These are powerful, and the blade does not care what is in the way. A powered pruner will go through a finger as easily as a stem. Keep your free hand behind the blade, never hold the branch at the cut point, use the safety lock whenever you are not cutting, and keep it away from children. Read the manual before the first cut.

Questions people ask first
How thick is 30 mm, really?
A little over an inch — about the thickness of a broom handle, or a decent apple-tree water shoot. It covers the overwhelming majority of what you meet pruning fruit trees, vines, roses and ornamental shrubs. Anything thicker than a broom handle is a job for a saw regardless of what tool you own.
Will it get through a 30 mm branch?
In green wood, yes — that is what the figure describes. On seasoned hardwood at the same diameter you are near the limit of any handheld powered pruner, and you will get a better result stepping down a size or using a saw.
Does it take Makita batteries?
It uses the same slide-on fitting as Makita's 18V packs, so if you already own that style of battery it will mount. Is it worth it for a small garden?
