The branch is six feet long and two inches thick. Getting the big chainsaw out for it feels absurd so it stays where it fell.

That's the whole problem this solves. Most cutting jobs in an ordinary yard are small. A limb down after a storm. Deadwood in the apple tree. A hedge that's gone woody at the base. Firewood for the pit. None of them justify mixing fuel, yanking a starter cord four times, and wrestling fourteen pounds of chainsaw — so they wait until there are enough of them to call it a job, and then the job never happens.

This weighs about as much as a kettle and runs off a battery. You pick it up, squeeze, and the branch is in two pieces before you'd have finished priming a gas saw. One hand. No fuel, no cord, no ritual. The jobs get done as they appear, instead of piling up in the corner of the garden until October.

One-Handed 4" or 6" Bar Batteries Included No Fuel, No Pull Cord Ships From The USA

Three versions — pick by the wood, not the price

The bar length decides what you can cut in one pass. The battery count decides how long you can keep going before you stop.

4" bar, one battery

The light one. Pruning, deadwood, hedge bases, tidying up after a storm. If most of what you cut is wrist-thick or less, this is enough saw and the easiest to hold at arm's length.

6" bar, one battery

More bar for thicker limbs and firewood rounds, still one battery. The sensible middle if you cut occasionally but want the extra reach when you meet something bigger.

6" bar, two batteries

The one to buy. One battery on the saw, one on the charger, and the afternoon doesn't stop halfway through the pile. Eleven dollars more than the single-battery version — the cheapest spare battery you will ever buy.

Straight talk — please read this part

A mini chainsaw is not a small version of a real chainsaw. It is a pruning tool. Branches, limbs, deadwood, firewood rounds. It will not fell a tree, it will not buck a trunk, and anything you would normally hire someone for is still a job for that person.

Being light and one-handed is exactly what makes it easy to be careless with. It is still a moving chain. Gloves and eye protection, both hands on the work, and never cut above shoulder height — if the branch is over your head, that's what the pole chainsaw is for, and it keeps you on the ground.

It runs in sessions, not all day. That's the trade for having no fuel and no cord.

Questions people ask first

How thick a branch will it actually cut?

As a rule, comfortably up to about the bar length — so wrist-thick on the 4 inch, arm-thick on the 6 inch. Push it past that and you'll be cutting from two sides and working the motor hard. For anything bigger you want a full-size saw.

Do I need to buy batteries?

No — they come with it. And because it uses the common Makita 18V-style slide mount, it shares that fitting with our extended ratchet wrench. If you already own tools on that platform, your packs slide straight on.

This or the pole chainsaw?

Different jobs. This one is for what's in front of you and on the ground. The pole chainsaw is for what's above your head, so you never climb a ladder holding a saw. Plenty of people end up with both, and they don't overlap.

What if it isn't right?
