Push or self-propelled — pick by your ground, not your budget
This is the only decision that really matters here, and most people get it wrong by choosing on price. If your lawn is flat and under about a quarter of an acre, the push version is the right mower and the extra money buys you nothing. If you have any slope at all, or long runs, or you're not as young as you were, the self-propelled version stops mowing being exercise. You provide the forward motion; the engine only spins the blade. Lighter, simpler, and one less drive system that can ever go wrong.
Buy this one if your lawn is flat and roughly a quarter acre or less. On level ground a 21-inch mower rolls easily, and the self-propelled drive would be money spent on something you'd never notice.
Version two
Self-Propelled
The engine drives the wheels as well as the blade. You steer it and it pulls itself along — you are walking behind a mower rather than pushing one.
Buy this one if you have any slope at all, a bigger lawn, long runs, or a back and knees that have opinions. On a hill this is not a comfort feature. It is the difference between mowing the lawn and fighting it.

Before visitors, after rain, or on the first cut of spring when the grass is too long to mulch cleanly. The rear collector goes on and the lawn is left looking like someone paid for it.
Side discharge — for the jungle
When you've been away and it's ankle-deep, side discharge is the only mode that won't clog. Take the first pass high, drop the deck, go again. Two passes beats one hour of unblocking a chute.
